Electrokinetic transport deals with motion of fluid and charged species under the effect of electric field. In this part, we look at how electric fields can be used in microfluidic devices to drive fluid flow and transport solute with minimal dispersion. Next, we discuss how electrophoresis techniques such as capillary zone electrophoresis and isotachophoresis can be integrated on a microfluidic chip. Dr. Bahga provides applications of electrokinetic transport in microfluidic chips for DNA separations, sample purification, and sequence-specific nucleic acid detection.
